Short answer
For most insulation contractors, Google Ads means Search ads, because Google's Local Services Ads list "Home insulation" only in California and Florida in the U.S., and not in Canada. Public 2026 benchmarks put home and home improvement Search ads at about $8.33 per click and $90.92 per lead. The accounts that pay less per job split campaigns by service, block DIY searches with negative keywords, and track every call to a booked estimate.
Search ads vs Local Services Ads for insulation
| Google Search ads | Local Services Ads (LSA) |
|---|
Available for insulation | Everywhere you advertise | U.S.: California and Florida only. Canada: no insulation category |
How you pay | Per click, whether or not the person calls | Per lead: a call, message or booking request |
Where it shows | Text ads above and below the organic results | Top of the results, with your rating and the Google Verified badge |
What you control | Keywords, negatives, ad text, landing page, towns, schedule, bids | Job types, service area, hours, budget, bid mode. No keywords, no landing page |
Public cost data | Home and home improvement: $8.33 per click, 8.05% conversion rate, $90.92 per lead (WordStream, April 2025 to March 2026) | Blended $53 per lead across 888 contractors, 43.9% booking rate (SearchLight Digital, February 2026). No insulation-specific figure |
Biggest risk | Paying for DIY, job seeker and out-of-area clicks | Missed calls hurt your ranking; you cannot choose the searches |
Two things changed recently. Google moved its Local Services advertisers to a single "Google Verified" badge, replacing "Google Guaranteed," and dropped the old money-back guarantee for services booked after December 7, 2025. If your site or ads still say "Google Guaranteed," update them. Our full guide to Local Services Ads for insulation covers eligibility, verification and ranking.
What Google leads cost for insulation
No public study publishes a Google cost per lead for insulation alone. The closest public numbers:
Source | Category | Cost per lead |
|---|
WordStream 2026 (Search, April 2025 to March 2026) | Home and home improvement | $90.92 median, $8.33 per click |
SearchLight Digital (LSA, February 2026) | All home service trades in the study | $53 blended |
SearchLight Digital (LSA, February 2026) | Electrical / HVAC / plumbing | $39 / $51 / $57 |
WordStream 2026 (Facebook lead campaigns) | Home and home improvement | $42.95 median |
From cost per lead to cost per booked estimate. At $90.92 per lead, if one lead in three books an estimate, each booked estimate costs about $273 in ad spend. If half book, about $182. That is why booking rate matters as much as the click price. Run your own numbers in the cost per booked job calculator, and compare channels in our insulation cost per lead guide.
How to structure an insulation Google Ads account
- One campaign per service you want to sell. Attic insulation, spray foam, insulation removal, crawl space, and air sealing each get their own campaign or ad group, ads and landing page. A spray foam searcher should land on a spray foam page, not your home page.
- Towns you actually serve. Set locations to your real service area. Google's default location option is "Presence or interest"; many local contractors switch to "Presence" (people in or regularly in your area), knowing Google says it can reduce volume.
- Phrase and exact match at launch. Start tight with keywords like "attic insulation [town]," "spray foam insulation contractor" and "insulation company near me." Open up only after the search terms report is clean.
- Ad schedule matched to your phones. Run call-heavy ads when someone answers. A missed call from an $8 click is the most expensive lead you have.
- A separate brand campaign. People searching your company name are cheap and close well; keep them out of the service campaigns so you can read both clearly.
- Manual or capped bidding at launch, smart bidding later. Move to Maximize Conversions once conversion tracking is clean and leads come in steadily.
Negative keywords that stop DIY clicks
Insulation has a big do-it-yourself audience: people looking for rolls at the hardware store, how-to videos and R-value charts. Add these negatives before launch, then review the search terms report every week:
Group | Negative keywords to add |
|---|
Do-it-yourself | diy, how to, install yourself, kit, video, youtube, tutorial |
Retail and products | home depot, lowes, menards, rolls, batts for sale, buy, price per roll |
Information only | what is, r-value chart, calculator, definition, vs (review case by case) |
Jobs | jobs, hiring, salary, installer job, training, certification |
Out of scope | car, pipe, water heater blanket, soundproofing (unless you sell it), commercial (if you do residential only) |
Free and cheap | free (keep "free estimate" and "free inspection" as exceptions), cheap, grant (unless a program is open in your area) |
Be careful with words that cut both ways. "Cost" and "price" searches are often real buyers ("spray foam insulation cost near me"), so keep them and send them to a page that explains your pricing range and the free inspection.
Call tracking: where Google leads are won or lost
For insulation, the phone is where most Google value shows up. Set up:
- Call assets and calls from ads, counted as a conversion only when the call lasts longer than a minimum duration you set, so hang-ups do not train the bidding.
- Tracked numbers on your landing pages, so calls from the page are tied back to the ad and the keyword.
- Forms and bookings counted as separate conversions.
- CRM stages sent back to Google. Import "estimate booked" and "sold" from your CRM as offline conversions. Without it, smart bidding learns to find cheap leads, not insulation jobs.
- Listen to calls in the first weeks. Recordings show whether the leads are homeowners with a real project, and whether the office books them.
Proof: what our published results show (and what they don't)
Straight answer: our published case studies are Meta (Facebook and Instagram) campaigns for insulation contractors. We do not publish Google Ads case studies yet, which is why this page uses public data for Google costs. What carries over to Google is the part after the click: fast follow-up, booking and tracking in the CRM.
Account | Leads | Booked estimates | Booking rate | Revenue |
|---|
Metro Insulation, 2 months | 170 | 56 | 32.94% | $22,350, 8 jobs closed |
Masterseal Insulation, 2 months | 50 | 27 | 43.24% | $8,300, plus about $55,000 pipeline |
Qute Insulation, 2.5 months | 84 | 29 | 40.28% | $8,738.75, plus $110,000+ pipeline |

Google or Facebook for insulation?
Google reaches homeowners who are already searching, at a higher cost per lead. Meta reaches homeowners before they search, usually cheaper but colder. A common plan: Search ads for "insulation near me" and spray foam searches, LSA if you are in California or Florida, and Meta to keep the estimate calendar full. For the whole system, see our insulation lead generation page or how we work as an insulation marketing agency. For the service itself, see Google Ads management; for other trades, Google Ads for contractors.

FAQ
Are Google Ads worth it for insulation contractors?
Yes, if you answer calls fast and track them to booked estimates. Search ads reach homeowners already looking for insulation. Expect a higher cost per lead than Meta: the 2026 public benchmark for home and home improvement is $90.92.
How much do Google Ads cost for insulation companies?
WordStream's 2026 benchmark for home and home improvement Search ads is a median $8.33 per click and $90.92 per lead. There is no public insulation-only figure, so use it as a starting point and your own numbers after a month.
Can insulation contractors use Google Local Services Ads?
In the U.S., Google lists "Home insulation" only in California and Florida, and Canada has no insulation category. Elsewhere, insulation companies use Search ads, Meta ads and their Google Business Profile.
Is it still called Google Guaranteed?
No. Google moved Local Services advertisers to a single "Google Verified" badge and dropped the money-back guarantee for services booked after December 7, 2025. Update any ad or page that still says "Google Guaranteed."
What negative keywords should insulation contractors use?
Start with DIY, how to, kit, rolls, home depot, lowes, jobs, hiring, salary and training. Then check the search terms report weekly and add what does not fit, keeping "cost" and "price" searches.
How much should an insulation company spend on Google Ads per month?
Work back from leads. At about $91 per lead, 20 leads cost about $1,800 a month in ad spend. Size the budget to the estimates your crews can run, and keep management fees separate when you compare quotes.
Why am I getting clicks but no calls?
The usual causes: DIY and job searches matching broad keywords, the location option showing ads outside your area, ads sending traffic to the home page, or no one answering during ad hours. Check the search terms report and location settings first.
