Short answer

Insulation lead generation works when four parts run together: paid ads that reach homeowners, a Google Maps listing that wins the people already searching, a CRM that holds every lead, and follow-up within minutes. Ads alone produce form fills; the other three turn them into booked estimates and signed jobs. In our published accounts, Meta leads cost about $30 to $37 and roughly one in three became a booked estimate.

Insulation lead generation cost: per lead, per appointment and per contract

Here is every insulation account we have published, from first lead to signed contract. All of these campaigns ran on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). Cost per appointment and cost per contract are ad spend divided by booked estimates or signed contracts. Numbers marked "calc." are calculated by us from the published figures. Management fees and tools are not included.

What the table says: a lead cost $21.18 to $52.49 (one launch reported leads as low as $12), a booked estimate cost about $64 to $167 in ad spend, and a signed contract cost about $254 to $1,446. Judge your marketing on the last two numbers, not on cost per lead alone. Run your own with the cost per booked job calculator.

The four parts of an insulation lead generation system

Part

What it does

What it costs (public data)

The number to watch

1. Paid ads (Meta, Google Search, Local Services Ads)

Puts your offer in front of homeowners in your service area, every day

Ad spend paid to the platform. Our insulation accounts started between about $450 and $2,500 a month (budgets by revenue)

Cost per lead

2. Google Maps (Google Business Profile)

Catches homeowners who search "insulation near me" and call the first trusted name

Free to set up. Costs time: photos, services, reviews

Calls and direction requests from the profile

3. CRM

One inbox and pipeline for every lead, call, text and estimate

GoHighLevel lists plans at $97 to $497 a month (Apexure, Sept. 2026)

Leads with no next step (should be zero)

4. Fast follow-up

Calls or texts each lead in minutes, then keeps following up until they book or say no

Mostly automation inside the CRM, plus someone to answer

Booking rate (lead to estimate)

Many contractors have one or two of these parts. A common pattern: ads are running, leads come in, and they sit in an email inbox until the owner gets home. That is where the money leaks.

Part 1: Paid ads that reach homeowners before they search

Insulation is mostly a "didn't know I needed it" purchase. Few homeowners wake up planning to redo their attic. They feel a cold room, see a high bill, or hear about a rebate. That is why social ads work well for insulation: they show the problem (cold floors, hot upstairs bedrooms, ice dams) to homeowners who have it but are not searching yet.

Best use

Meta (Facebook, Instagram)

Homeowners in your area who are not searching yet

$21.18 to $52.49 across our published insulation case studies, most between $30 and $37 (full table)

Steady estimate volume, offer testing

Google Search ads

People already searching "attic insulation near me"

Home & Home Improvement median of $90.92 per lead (WordStream 2026, 13,474 U.S. campaigns)

High-intent calls in markets with search volume

Google Local Services Ads

Searchers who click the "Google Guaranteed" or "Google Screened" box

$53 blended, from $39 (electrical) to $59 (drain and sewer) by trade (SearchLight Digital, 888 contractors, Feb. 2026)

Phone calls, pay per lead

Shared lead sites (Angi, Thumbtack)

Homeowners comparing several contractors at once

About $542 (Angi) and $250 (Thumbtack) per booked job (Blue Grid Media 2026, cited by NowBooked)

Filling gaps; the lead is often sent to competitors too

These numbers come from different sources and are not measured the same way, so use them as a rough guide, not a ranking. What they do show: Meta usually brings the cheapest leads for insulation, and Google brings the most urgent ones. Many accounts run both.

What makes an insulation ad work:

  • A concrete offer. "Free attic inspection" or "Find out what you could save on your heating bill" beats "Quality insulation services."
  • Local proof. A photo of your crew in an attic in the buyer's town does more than a stock image.
  • A short form with 2 or 3 qualifying questions (homeowner? which part of the house? zip code?) so your team does not drive to renters or out-of-area addresses.
  • No federal tax credit hook in the U.S. The 25C credit ended for work placed in service after December 31, 2025 (Building Performance Association). Lead with comfort, bill savings, and any state or utility rebates still active.

Exclusive insulation leads vs shared leads

An exclusive lead goes to one company: yours. A shared lead is sold to several contractors at the same time, so the homeowner gets three or four calls and the job often goes to the fastest or the cheapest. Here is what the main options publish, or what public sources report:

Source

Exclusive or shared

Cost (public data)

What to know

Your own ads (Meta, Google)

Exclusive

$21.18 to $52.49 per lead in our published insulation accounts on Meta

You own the lead, the follow-up and the data. You pay ad spend plus management.

99 Calls

Exclusive (each lead sent to one company, per 99 Calls)

$54.99 per organic SEO lead; $76 to $262 per Google Ads lead (10th to 90th percentile, last 12 months)

One of the few lead sellers that publishes insulation lead prices

Angi

Often shared with several pros

$15 to $85 per lead plus about $300 a year in membership, as reported by contractors (Housecall Pro, Aug. 2026). About $542 per booked job (Blue Grid Media 2026)

Angi does not publish one standard price list

Thumbtack

Customers often contact several pros; Thumbtack advertises "limited competition per lead"

$10 to over $100 per lead, as reported by pros (Housecall Pro, May 2026). About $250 per booked job (Blue Grid Media 2026)

Thumbtack does not publish lead prices

Modernize

Shared: the homeowner form authorizes Modernize "and up to four home improvement companies" to call

Not published

You can compete with up to three other companies on each request

Shared leads can fill a slow week. But a low price per lead hides the real cost: when several companies call the same homeowner, fewer of your leads turn into jobs. Public 2026 estimates put Angi and Thumbtack at about $250 to $542 per booked job, while our published insulation accounts booked estimates for about $64 to $167 in ad spend. These numbers are not measured the same way (a booked estimate is not a booked job), so use them as a guide, not a ranking.

Spray foam leads

Spray foam jobs are often larger than blown-in or batt jobs, so each lead is worth more and a slow follow-up costs more. What changes when you generate spray foam leads:

  • Show the problem, not the product. Homeowners do not search for "closed-cell foam". They react to cold floors over a garage, hot bonus rooms, drafty rim joists and metal buildings that sweat. Build each ad around one of those problems.
  • Ask the job type in the form. Attic, crawl space, new construction, pole barn or metal building. If you also do commercial or agricultural work, run it as a separate campaign.
  • Book an assessment, not a phone quote. Spray foam prices vary a lot from job to job, so the offer should be an on-site visit.
  • Plan for a longer close. Bigger tickets need more follow-up after the estimate. Keep the day 2, 5 and 10 quote follow-ups running.

Proof from spray insulation accounts: Spray Insulation Pros ran a Facebook campaign for homeowners who needed spray insulation and reported 30+ leads, as low as $12 each, and $30,000 in revenue in its first month (case study). ThermoSpray of Lexington booked 38 appointments from 100+ Meta leads in 3 months, for $45,000+ in revenue at 13x ROAS (case study).

Part 2: Google Maps, the free channel most contractors leave half done

When a homeowner searches "spray foam insulation near me," the map results show up before most websites. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up. Prominence includes how many reviews you have and your rating.

Your Google Business Profile checklist:

  1. Primary category set to "Insulation contractor," with secondary categories that match what you sell (for example, spray foam).
  2. Every service listed: attic insulation, crawl space, spray foam, blown-in, air sealing, insulation removal.
  3. Service area set to the towns you actually drive to.
  4. Real photos every month: crews, before and after, thermal camera shots.
  5. A review request after every finished job, sent by text from your CRM, and a reply to every review.
  6. Call tracking so you know how many calls the profile sends.

Part 3: A CRM so no lead falls through the cracks

A CRM is the place every lead lands, no matter where it came from. Without one, leads live in Facebook notifications, voicemails, email and the owner's memory. With one, you can see the whole pipeline on one screen.

Set up these pipeline stages at a minimum:

Stage

Moves when

Automatic action

New lead

Form, call or message comes in

Text and email sent right away, task created for a call

Contacted

Someone spoke with the homeowner

Reminder if no estimate is booked within 48 hours

Estimate booked

Date and time confirmed

Confirmation text, reminder the day before and the morning of

Estimate done

Visit completed

Quote sent, follow-up texts on day 2, 5 and 10

Won / Lost

Signed, or homeowner says no

Review request (won) or a check-in next season (lost)

The rule: every lead has a next step and a date. Check weekly for leads with no next step.

Part 4: Follow-up speed decides your booking rate

This is the cheapest part of the system and the one that moves results the most. Harvard Business Review audited 2,241 U.S. companies and found the average response time to a web lead was 42 hours. In a separate study of 1.25 million leads, firms that tried to reach a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to have a real conversation with the decision maker as firms that waited even one hour longer. Local Services Ads data points the same way: about 31% of leads booked when contacted within an hour, against about 15% after 24 hours (Ryn Digital LSA statistics 2026).

A follow-up sequence that works for insulation:

  1. Within 1 minute: automatic text: "Hi [name], this is [company]. Got your request about your attic. What's the best time today for a quick call?"
  2. Within 5 minutes: a person calls. If no answer, leave a short voicemail and send a second text.
  3. Same day: one more call attempt in the evening, when homeowners are home.
  4. Days 2 to 7: one text or call per day, each with a reason to answer (a time slot, a photo of a similar job, a rebate question).
  5. After the estimate: follow up on the quote on day 2, 5 and 10. Insulation quotes often close weeks after the visit.

Proof: two insulation accounts running the full system

Ozark Insulation Pros: a brand new company with no customer base

Luke started Ozark with no online presence and no past customers. We built the profile, ran Facebook and Instagram ads, and set up the lead follow-up and booking process. Results in the first few weeks (full case study):

  • Ad spend: $1,730.87
  • Leads: 48, at $36.06 each
  • Appointments booked: 19 (39.58% booking rate)
  • Cost per appointment: $91.10
  • Estimated pipeline: $45,050+

The case study calls these first results "modest", but they show the system working from zero: almost 4 in 10 leads booked an estimate.

Metro Insulation: an established company that needed steady appointments

Karn's family business in Surrey, British Columbia, had an unpredictable calendar and high lead costs from past marketing. In two months (full case study):

Your first 90 days

  1. Week 1 to 2: set up the CRM, the follow-up texts and the Google Business Profile. Fix this before spending on ads.
  2. Week 2 to 4: launch one ad channel (usually Meta) with 2 or 3 offers. Expect leads within days.
  3. Month 2: keep the offer that books the most estimates, not the one with the cheapest leads. Add Google Search if your market has search volume.
  4. Month 3: judge on cost per signed job and open pipeline. Scale to the number of jobs your crews can install.

FAQ

What is the best way to get insulation leads?

Run paid ads (Meta first for most insulation companies, Google Search where people search), keep a complete Google Business Profile, and follow up on every lead within minutes from a CRM. Each part on its own works less well than the four together.

How much does an insulation lead cost?

In our published insulation accounts on Meta, $21.18 to $52.49, with most between $30 and $37. Public benchmarks put Google Search leads for home and home improvement at a $90.92 median (WordStream 2026) and Local Services Ads at about $53 blended (SearchLight Digital). Judge the cost per signed job, not only the cost per lead.

Are Facebook ads good for insulation contractors?

Yes, for most residential insulation companies. Homeowners rarely search for insulation until they feel the problem, and Meta lets you show them the problem first. All of our published insulation case studies are Meta campaigns.

Should I buy leads from Angi or Thumbtack?

They can fill gaps, but the lead is often shared with other contractors and you do not build your own pipeline. Public 2026 estimates put the cost at about $250 (Thumbtack) to $542 (Angi) per booked job. Leads from your own ads and Google profile are yours.

How fast should I respond to an insulation lead?

Within minutes. Research on 1.25 million leads found that contacting a lead within an hour made a real conversation nearly seven times more likely than waiting longer. An automatic text in the first minute and a call in the first five is a good standard.

How long until lead generation pays off?

Leads usually start within days of launching ads, but insulation estimates take weeks to close. Our published accounts reported signed revenue within 1 to 2.5 months, with more pipeline still open. Give the system 90 days before judging it.

What is the difference between exclusive and shared insulation leads?

An exclusive lead is sent to one contractor only. A shared lead is sold to several contractors at once: Modernize's homeowner form, for example, lets up to four companies contact the homeowner. Shared leads cost less per lead but usually more per booked job, because you compete on speed and price.

How much does an insulation appointment cost?

In our published insulation accounts, a booked estimate cost about $64 to $167 in ad spend, for example $91.10 at Ozark Insulation Pros and about $90 at Metro Insulation. A signed contract cost about $254 to $1,446 in ad spend.

How do I get spray foam insulation leads?

Run local ads that show the problem spray foam fixes (cold floors, hot bonus rooms, sweating metal buildings), ask the job type in the form, and offer an on-site assessment. Spray Insulation Pros reported 30+ leads, as low as $12 each, and $30,000 in revenue in its first month on Facebook ads.

Is it better to buy insulation leads or generate your own?

Buying leads is faster to start, but you rent the pipeline. Generating your own (ads, Google Maps, a CRM) takes a few weeks to set up, and every lead, review and past customer stays yours. Many contractors buy leads only to fill gaps while their own system ramps up.
