Full report:Insulation Contractor Advertising Benchmarks 2026

Short answer

Across the insulation accounts we run, a Meta (Facebook and Instagram) lead costs $12 to $52, with a median around $35. Public benchmarks put Google Search leads for home and home improvement at about $91 on average (WordStream and LocaliQ, 2026) and Google Local Services Ads leads at $39 to $59 depending on the trade, $53 blended (SearchLight Digital, February 2026). The number that matters more is the cost per booked estimate: $64 to $167 on Meta in our accounts, median about $90.

Where these numbers come from

Two kinds of data, and we keep them separate on purpose:

  1. Our own accounts. Ten published insulation case studies, all running Meta ads, from 2 weeks to 3 months of data each, in the US and Canada. Every number below links to its case study so you can check it.
  2. Public benchmarks for channels we have less of our own data on (Google Search, Local Services Ads, lead aggregators). Sources are listed at the bottom with their sample size and date.

No insulation-specific public benchmark exists for Google Search or LSA. Insulation gets lumped into "home services" or "contractors", so treat those figures as direction, not precision.

Why Meta comes out cheapest: insulation is a problem most homeowners don't search for until a cold winter or a high bill. Meta lets you show the problem (drafty rooms, ice dams, bills) to the right neighbourhoods before they search. Google catches the ones already searching, which is why the lead costs more but closes faster.

Spend figures marked "about" are calculated from the published cost per lead and lead count. Booking rate is booked estimates divided by leads.

Three things stand out:

  • The cheapest lead is not the best account. Spray Insulation Pros paid $12 per lead; Masterseal paid $37 and booked 54% of them. Booking rate moves revenue more than cost per lead does.
  • Most accounts land between $30 and $37 per lead once they have a few weeks of data. The outliers ($12 and $52) are a brand-new launch and an account expanding into new regions with retargeting.
  • Closing rate is where the money is made or lost. Across the accounts that reported it, 7% to 25% of booked estimates became signed jobs. Same kind of ads, very different follow-up.

What moves your cost per lead

Factor

Effect we see

What to do

Season

Leads cost less in fall and late winter (bills, cold rooms); more in late spring

Budget heavier September to March

Offer

"Free attic inspection" or rebate-led offers beat "quality insulation services"

Lead with rebates and bill savings, not comfort alone

Geography

Rural and small-town areas: lower cost per click, smaller audiences

Expand radius before raising budget

Insulation type

Spray foam tickets are higher, so a $50 lead is fine; blown-in needs leads under $40 to pencil

Set your target by ticket size, not by a universal number

Follow-up speed

Booking rate drops when leads wait hours

Call or text in under 5 minutes (see Insulation lead generation)

Creative fatigue

Cost per lead climbs after 3 to 6 weeks on the same ad

Rotate 2 or 3 new angles a month

How to use these numbers

  1. Work backwards from a job. If your average insulation job is $4,000 and you close 10% of leads, each lead is worth $400 in revenue. A $35 lead is a bargain; even a $90 Google lead works.
  2. Judge channels on cost per booked estimate, not cost per lead. A $25 lead that books 20% of the time ($125 per estimate) is worse than a $40 lead that books 40% ($100).
  3. Give a channel 30 days and $1,500 before judging it. Most of our accounts needed 2 to 4 weeks for costs to settle.
  4. Track it in one place. Ad platform numbers and CRM numbers rarely match. Count leads, estimates and jobs in your CRM.

FAQ

What is a good cost per lead for insulation contractors?

On Meta, $25 to $40 is a healthy range once the account is past its first month. Under $20 usually means a very broad offer and lower lead quality; over $60 usually means the offer, the creative or the targeting needs work. On Google Search, public benchmarks put home improvement leads around $91 on average, with HVAC and roofing higher.

Why are insulation leads cheaper on Facebook than on Google?

Fewer contractors bid for insulation audiences on Meta, and the ads create demand instead of competing for the few people searching that day. Google leads cost more but are further along: they already want a quote.

Are Local Services Ads worth it for insulation?

Usually yes as a second channel. Public data puts leads at $39 to $59 for most trades, you pay per lead, and the Google Verified badge helps close. For insulation, the LSA category is only open in California and Florida for now. The limit is volume: LSA only reaches people already searching, so it rarely fills a calendar on its own.

How much should I spend per month on insulation ads?

At $35 per lead and a 35% booking rate, $1,500 a month buys about 40 leads and 14 estimates. $3,000 buys roughly double. Start where you can handle the estimates, then scale.

Does cost per lead include your agency fee?

No. Every figure above is ad spend only. Agency or management fees sit on top. Our insulation marketing cost breakdown covers the full picture.

How fast do I need to respond to a lead?

Faster than you think. A Harvard Business Review study of 2,241 companies found that firms contacting a lead within an hour were nearly 7 times more likely to qualify it than firms that waited longer. Our accounts with the highest booking rates call or text within minutes.
