Google Ads for Contractors 🔎
We run Google Search and Local Services Ads for renovation contractors, and we judge them on booked estimates and signed jobs, not clicks.
Trusted by 300+ partners
Google has two ad products for contractors. Search ads charge per click; in public 2026 benchmarks, home and home improvement advertisers paid about $8.33 per click and $90.92 per lead. Local Services Ads (LSA) charge per lead; a February 2026 study of 888 contractors found a blended $53 per lead, from $39 for electrical to $59 for drain and sewer. Start with LSA if your trade is eligible and someone answers the phone live, add Search when you need control over services, areas and landing pages.
Why Contractors Hand Us Their Google Ads
Booked Jobs Are the Scoreboard
We connect your ads to your CRM so you see which keyword and which LSA lead turned into an estimate and a signed job. Clicks and impressions are a means, not the report.
Search and LSA Run as One Plan
Your Local Services profile and your Search campaigns cover different searches. We set budgets, hours and service areas so they work together instead of bidding against each other.
Every Lead Answered Fast
LSA rankings reward responsiveness and Search leads go cold quickly. Calls, forms and messages land in one inbox, with automatic texts so nobody waits.
You Own Everything
Your Google Ads account, your LSA profile, your landing pages and your data stay in your name. If you ever leave, your history stays with you.

Our Google Ads Process for Contractors
From the first search to the signed contract, every step is tracked.
Search Plan by Service and Area
We split campaigns by the jobs you want (attic insulation, interior painting, LVP flooring, garage epoxy, AC replacement) and by the towns you actually serve.

Local Services Profile Built to Rank
Categories, job types, service area, hours, photos, reviews and verification: the pieces Google says it weighs, filled in properly.

Call and Form Tracking Tied to Your CRM
Every call and form is recorded, then marked booked or sold in GoHighLevel, so the campaigns learn from jobs, not from tire kickers.

Weekly Cleanup and Testing
We read the search terms report, add negatives, dispute bad LSA leads and test ads and landing pages against what is closing.

Google Search ads | Local Services Ads (LSA) | |
|---|---|---|
How you pay | Per click, whether or not the person calls | Per lead: a connected call, a message or a booking request |
Where it shows | Text ads above and below organic results | Top of the results, with your rating, reviews and the Google Verified badge |
What you control | Keywords, negative keywords, ad text, landing page, towns, schedule, bids | Categories, job types, service area, hours, budget, bid mode. No keywords, no landing page |
Public cost data | Home and home improvement: $8.33 per click, 8.05% conversion rate, $90.92 per lead (WordStream and LocaliQ, April 2025 to March 2026) | Blended $53 per lead across 888 contractors, 43.9% booking rate (SearchLight Digital, February 2026) |
Best for | Specific services, big tickets, trades not covered by LSA, landing pages with your offer | Phone-driven trades where homeowners call fast and compare reviews |
Biggest risk | Paying for irrelevant clicks (DIY, jobs, out of area) | Missed calls hurt your ranking; you cannot pick which searches trigger the ad |
Trade | Search ads, median cost per lead | LSA, cost per lead |
|---|---|---|
Electrical | $93.69 | $39 |
HVAC (air conditioning) | $127.74 | $51 |
Plumbing | $129.02 | $57 |
Roofing and gutters | $228.15 | No reliable public figure (sources disagree) |
Home and home improvement, all | $90.92 average | $53 blended, all trades in the study |
Search figures by trade: LocaliQ, April 2024 to March 2025. LSA figures: SearchLight Digital, February 2026, gross spend before dispute credits. Public studies do not publish separate figures for insulation, painting, flooring or epoxy, so use the home improvement row as a starting point and your own numbers after the first month.
From cost per lead to cost per booked estimate. With the LSA study's numbers, $53 per lead at a 43.9% booking rate works out to about $121 per booked appointment ($53 ÷ 0.439). Run the same math with your own figures in our cost per booked job calculator.
Setting | What to do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Location option | Google's default is "Presence or interest." Many local contractors switch to "Presence" (people in or regularly in your area), knowing Google warns it can reduce volume | Stops clicks from people who only searched about your town from elsewhere |
Campaign structure | One campaign or ad group per service, with its own ads and landing page | A painting searcher should land on a painting page, not your home page |
Match types and negatives | Start with phrase and exact match. Add negatives early: DIY, jobs, salary, free, course, "how to," brands of retail stores | The search terms report is where most wasted spend hides |
Call tracking and assets | Call assets during business hours, tracked call numbers on the landing page, ad schedule matched to when you answer | Calls are most of the value for contractors |
Conversion tracking | Count calls over a set length, forms and bookings. Then import "booked" and "sold" from your CRM | Without this, smart bidding optimizes for cheap leads that never buy |
Bidding | Manual or Maximize Clicks with a cap at launch; Maximize Conversions once tracking is clean and leads come in steadily | Smart bidding needs reliable data to learn from |
Google says LSA ranking depends on your bid, how likely you are to produce a lead (responsiveness, the search itself, business relevance, contact options) and profile quality (rating, review count, response time, photos, completed verification). In practice:
If homeowners in your area search for what you install, and you can answer the phone when they call, this is for you.

What Our Published Results Show (and What They Don't)
Straight answer: our published case studies are Meta (Facebook and Instagram) campaigns for insulation contractors. We do not publish Google Ads case studies yet, which is why this page uses public benchmarks for Google costs.
What carries over from those accounts to Google is the part after the click: fast follow-up, booking and tracking in the CRM.
Account | Leads | Booked | Booking rate | Revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Metro Insulation, 2 months | 170 | 56 | 32.94% | $22,350, 8 jobs closed |
Masterseal Insulation, 2 months | 50 | 27 | 54.00% | $8,300, plus about $55,000 pipeline |
ThermoSpray of Lexington, 3 months | 100+ | 38 | n/a | $45,000+, about $200,000 pipeline |
All figures as reported in each case study, Meta ads only. See all of them on our case studies page. For the Meta side of the plan, see Facebook ads for contractors.
Often, yes, when your trade is eligible and you answer calls live. You pay per lead instead of per click, and a February 2026 study of 888 contractors found a blended $53 per lead with a 43.9% booking rate. They work poorly if calls go to voicemail, because missed calls hurt your ranking.
Work back from leads. At the public home improvement average of about $91 per Search lead, 20 leads cost about $1,800 a month in ad spend. Size the budget to the jobs your crews can install, and keep the management fee separate when you compare quotes.
They do different jobs. Google reaches people already searching, usually at a higher cost per lead. Meta reaches homeowners before they search, usually cheaper per lead but colder. Many contractors run LSA or Search for ready buyers and Meta to fill the calendar.
The usual causes: the location option includes people outside your area, broad keywords match DIY or job searches, ads send traffic to the home page, or calls are not tracked. Check the search terms report and your location settings first.
Yes. Rate each lead and report spam, wrong service or out-of-area contacts through the lead feedback. Google reassesses charged leads over 30 days and credits low-quality ones to your account balance.
For Local Services Ads, no: customers call or message from the ad. For Search ads, yes: you need a landing page for each service you advertise, with your phone number, reviews and a short form.
