Short answer

Blown-in attic jobs are easier to sell online: the offer is simple, the ticket is smaller, rebates often apply and many homeowners decide after one visit. Spray foam is harder to sell from an ad but pays more per job. Angi's 2026 data puts the average spray foam project at $2,887 against $1,661 for blown-in, so spray foam can carry a higher cost per signed job. Most insulation companies do best using a blown-in or attic offer to fill the calendar and selling spray foam where the house really needs it.

$1,455 to $4,337

Installed price

$1.75 to $7.50 per sq ft; attics $3 to $7.50

Whole house

Not given

Two things to keep in mind. These are averages for single projects, and many are small (one attic, one wall). And they are national; your market may be well above or below.

What real insulation accounts sold per job

Our published case studies report the average sale for several accounts. They do not break sales down by insulation type, so read this as the range of tickets residential insulation companies close from online leads, not as a spray foam vs blown-in split.

Notes

The Great Insulation

$3,000

1 job in 2 weeks

Masterseal Insulation

$4,150

2 jobs in 2 months

Qute Insulation

$4,369.38

2 jobs in 2.5 months

Tyson Energy Solutions

$5,647.55

2 jobs in 2 months

Midwest Insulation

$7,000

1 job in 1 month

ThermoSpray of Lexington

about $11,250

Calculated: $45,000+ revenue from 4 jobs in 3 months

Spray Insulation Pros, whose ads targeted homeowners needing spray insulation, closed several jobs worth $30,000 in its first month, with about $360 in ad spend and $60,000 more in the pipeline.

What this says: tickets from online leads in these accounts ran from $3,000 to about $11,250, well above the national single-project averages. The biggest tickets came from the spray-focused companies. Bigger tickets also mean fewer, slower closes: ThermoSpray signed 4 jobs from 38 booked appointments over three months.

Sales cycle: why blown-in closes faster

Blown-in attic

Spray foam

What the homeowner is buying

"Top up my attic, lower my bills"

A specific fix: cold room over the garage, crawl space, rim joists, new addition, pole barn, finished basement

Can you price it from the lead form?

Often a range, from square footage and current depth

Rarely. Needs a visit: depth, cell type, prep, access

Who decides

Usually one visit, one decision

Often two decision makers and several quotes

Typical objections

"Is it worth it?" "Can I wait?"

"Why so much more than blown-in?" "Is it safe?" "Will it trap moisture?"

Rebate help

Utility programs often cover attic insulation and air sealing (Mass Save pays 75% to 100% off approved work)

Depends on the program. Ontario's attic rebate path, for example, accepts spray foam, fiberglass and cellulose (as reported by an Ontario contractor, August 2026)

Follow-up needed

A few touches within a week or two

Weeks of follow-up, education and reminders

In our accounts, insulation estimates often close weeks after the first visit, and the open pipeline is usually much larger than the first months of signed revenue: Masterseal reported about $55,000 of estimated pipeline after two months, ThermoSpray about $200,000 after three. The bigger and more technical the job, the more that follow-up matters.

Offers that work for each

Blown-in and attic:

  • Free attic inspection. Simple, low risk, and gets you in the house.
  • Rebate check for the address. Where a utility or state program applies, "see what your utility will pay" is a strong hook. See the rules in your area before you run it.
  • Bill savings. ENERGY STAR estimates that sealing and insulating saves an average of 15% on heating and cooling costs. Use that, not invented savings numbers.
  • Seasonal timing. "Before heating season" or "before summer heat" gives a reason to act now.

Spray foam:

  • Lead with the problem, not the product. "Is the room over your garage freezing?" or "Is your crawl space making the floors cold?" beats "spray foam installation".
  • Show the install. Video of the foam going on and before and after photos explain the value better than any text.
  • Qualify in the form. Ask what area they want insulated and why. A homeowner asking about a pole barn is a different job from one asking about an attic.
  • Explain the price gap up front. A short comparison of spray foam vs blown-in on your landing page saves time on every estimate.

How much ad spend each job can carry

The bigger the ticket, the more you can pay to win it. In our published insulation accounts, ad spend per signed job ran from about $456 to about $1,446 (calculated in our insulation marketing cost guide). Here is what that range means against the national average tickets:

Average ticket

Ad spend per job at $456

Ad spend per job at $1,446

Blown-in, $1,661 (Angi average)

about 27% of the ticket

about 87% of the ticket

Spray foam, $2,887 (Angi average)

about 16% of the ticket

about 50% of the ticket

$4,150 (Masterseal average sale)

about 11%

about 35%

Calculations, not quotes. Two conclusions:

  1. Small blown-in jobs alone are hard to make profitable with paid ads. If your average attic job is near the national average, you need cheap leads, a high closing rate or add-ons (air sealing, removal, rebates) to make the math work.
  2. Spray foam and bundled jobs give you room. A higher cost per lead is fine if the ticket is two or three times larger. Set your target cost per job from your own average ticket. Our cost per booked job calculator does the math.

So which should you advertise?

Your situation

What to lead with online

New company, need cash flow

Blown-in attic offer with a free inspection. Fast closes, simple message

Spray foam rig and crew to keep busy

Problem-based spray foam ads (garage rooms, crawl spaces, barns, metal buildings), with real install videos

Both services

Attic offer as the front door. Inspect the whole house and quote spray foam where it is the right fix

Strong utility or state rebates in your area

Rebate-led attic and air sealing offer, filed by your team

Long sales cycle, many open quotes

Invest in automatic follow-up before raising ad spend

Proof

Midwest Insulation shows what a strong ticket does to the math: $456.20 in ad spend, 13 leads at $35.09, and one $7,000 sale in the first month, a 15.34x return on ad spend. Spray Insulation Pros shows the spray side: about $360 in ad spend, 30+ leads, 25 estimates and $30,000 closed in month one.

FAQ

Is spray foam or blown-in more profitable for an insulation contractor?

Spray foam usually brings a bigger ticket: Angi's 2026 average is $2,887 against $1,661 for blown-in. Margin depends on your material, labor and equipment costs, so compare profit per job and per crew day, not price alone.

Why do spray foam leads take longer to close?

The ticket is larger, the job usually needs an on-site estimate, and homeowners often compare several quotes and have questions about cost, safety and moisture. Plan for weeks of follow-up.

What is the best offer for insulation ads?

For blown-in and attic work, a free attic inspection, often paired with a rebate check where programs exist. For spray foam, an offer built around a specific problem (cold rooms, crawl spaces, barns) with real install videos.

How much should I pay per lead for spray foam vs blown-in?

Work back from your average ticket and closing rate. A spray foam job worth two or three times a blown-in job can carry a higher cost per lead. In our published accounts, most leads cost $30 to $37 on Meta.

Should I offer both spray foam and blown-in?

If you can, yes. A simple attic offer brings more leads, and the inspection lets you quote spray foam where it is the right fix. Spray-only companies do well with problem-based ads that pre-qualify the job.
